Boars in Badock’s Wood!
The Bronze Age history of Badock’s Wood LNR was recently brought to life by pupils from Badock’s Wood Primary School, Southmead. 45 year 5 pupils worked with storyteller Martin Maudesley and the Forest of Avon Wood School project to develop a story and play which was performed to an audience of over 100 people adjacent to the Bronze Age burial mound on the site on the 9th May.
The performance followed several weeks of workshops in the woodland where pupils developed their ideas taking inspiration from the history and wildlife of the site. The play featured the story of a wild boar and a local chieftain and ended with an invitation to the audience to consider how they could contribute to safeguarding Badock’s Wood for future generations. This project was funded thanks to Breathing Spaces funding from the Friends of Badock’s Wood and support from the Forest of Avon Wood School project to develop schools involvement in the site.

Our special thanks go to the staff of Bristol Parks, Continental Landscapes and Mark Newport the Southmead Park Keeper for getting the play site ready for us.
