Just quickly and belatedly want to say that the production of Macbeth put on this summer by the students from Filton College was briliant. Thanks must be due to Mark and the Police and everyone who worked so hard to make it such a successful event. A transformation took place that evening and the site specifc production has made me see the Woods in a different way. Fabulous!

Can anyone tell me about the badgers in the wood. I am doing my own survey of the setts but am yet to see a badger out. Are they of a local genetic brown variety.(Am a member of the Badger Trust and realize that this would be sensitive information). I have also been collecting bags full of rubbish including a wheely bin which to my joy has now been fixed to the Lakewood Rd entrance complete with bin bag. Plus I have found in the past hazelnuts with a dormouse shaped hole. Are their any owls? Jo

I will be handing over the website to Alan on Friday 14th Aug 2009. I started the site a fair few years ago and have enjoyed being part of the FOBW, but all good things come to an end.

I leave with a saddened heart at the way my always good intentions were totally and completely misunderstood by rank and file membership.

Good luck with the site in future.

This lovely place has been a haven in the recent hot weather and it is looking so very beautiful, the wildflower meadows are amazing and everyone I meet when I walk through there is so very happy that it is there. I like the interpretation boards and the birds are always entertaining and I saw a dragonfly yesterday.

I grew up in Southmead in the 70s and 80s and always knew Badock Woods simply as "the woods." I have happy memories of autumn walks searching for blackberries and cobnuts, going up a steep bank to what we knew as "the horse's field" and following the river along to the wildlife park. I also remember the hot summer of 1976 when the Trym completely dried up and we could walk along the river bed (that was the same year we had freak swarms of ladybirds over Doncaster Rd school!) I live in North Somerset now, but feel I must make a trip back in time to "the woods" very soon with my own children. It really does hold some magical memories for me. I shall be keeping this site in my favourites from now on, and just want to add finally - well done and thank you to everyone involved with looking after it. You're doing a great job!

Thank you, Alan, for leading me to this website. I used to live in Bristol as a small child but moved away when I was about 8 and I haven't been back since. I now live in NZ and although I didn't know Baldock Wood, this has been a very nostalgic 'trip' home. I used to live in Eldred Close, off Druid Stoke Avenue.
Lorna, New Zealand

I was delighted to find your Badock Woods website and want to support you in further work. It brought back many happy memories of early childhood as I grew up the Southmead and part of my childhood was spent time exploring these woods. As you can see, I now live in the United States, but return regularly to Bristol area as I have family there. Also I was astonished to learn of the Bronze age mound in the vicinity. This is significant local find.
